BREAKING: Supreme Court of India Launches Daily Live Streaming of Regular Matters

In a historic move aimed at enhancing transparency and public access to judicial proceedings, the Supreme Court of India has officially launched live streaming of regular court matters on a daily basis. This monumental decision marks a significant step towards increasing the accessibility of the country’s apex court to citizens across the nation.

The Chief Justice of India (CJI), emphasized the importance of making the judiciary more open and accountable. “We are ushering in a new era of judicial transparency. Citizens have the right to witness and understand how justice is administered in the highest court of the land,” said the CJI. The live streaming will provide the public with direct access to observe court proceedings, helping to demystify legal processes that often seem opaque.

The Supreme Court has been gradually moving towards greater openness, with live streaming of constitutional bench cases having been implemented since 2022. However, today’s announcement extends this practice to all regular matters heard before the court. This includes civil, criminal, and public interest cases, with certain restrictions to ensure privacy and national security in sensitive matters.

The initiative is expected to promote greater legal literacy among citizens and foster trust in the judicial system. The live streams will be available on the official website of the Supreme Court and through a dedicated YouTube channel, accessible to all.

Legal experts have praised the move, calling it a watershed moment in the evolution of India’s justice system. “This is a tremendous step towards ensuring that justice is not only done but is seen to be done by the public,” said senior advocate Prashant Bhushan.
