PM Modi to Kick Off National Conference on District Judiciary

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate a two-day national conference on the district judiciary this coming Saturday, organized by the Supreme Court to address various key issues facing the lower courts.

At the opening ceremony, the Prime Minister will release a commemorative coin and postage stamp to mark the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the Supreme Court. The event will also be attended by Arjun Ram Meghwal, Minister of State (independent charge) for Law and Justice, alongside other notable figures.

President Droupadi Murmu is scheduled to close the conference with a valedictory speech on September 1, during which she will also unveil the new flag and insignia of the Supreme Court.

Guided by the Chief Justice of India, the conference will cover six thematic sessions aimed at bolstering the judiciary’s infrastructure and human resources. It expects to gather over 800 participants from district judiciaries across all Indian states and union territories.

One of the focal sessions, titled “Courtrooms for All,” will discuss improving accessibility and inclusivity in the judiciary, particularly for marginalized communities. Another significant session will address “Judicial Security and Judicial Wellness,” focusing on the safety and well-being of judges.

On its second day, the conference will tackle “Case Management,” with strategies to improve case handling and reduce pendency. Discussions will also revolve around “Judicial Training – Curriculum and Methods” to refine judicial training programs.

A session titled “Bridging the Gap” will explore ways in which higher courts can support the district judiciary more effectively.

The conference will see participation from Supreme Court judges, chief justices of high courts, the Secretary General of the Supreme Court, and registrar generals of high courts, ensuring a comprehensive representation of the judiciary’s hierarchy.

“This conference is a significant step towards addressing the challenges faced by the district judiciary,” stated the Supreme Court. “It will foster a unified approach to ensure that justice delivery is timely, fair, and accessible to all citizens.”
