In a recent development, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, the former chief of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) and ex-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP, has filed a petition in the Delhi High Court seeking the quashing of an FIR and all related charges against him. The charges stem from allegations of sexual harassment made by six female wrestlers.
The case is scheduled for a hearing this Thursday before Justice Neena Bansal Krishna. Singh’s legal move comes after the charges were formally laid against him by a trial court on May 21, which included allegations of sexual harassment, intimidation, and outraging the modesty of women.
Singh’s petition argues that the investigation was biased, claiming that it primarily focused on the complainants’ accounts, whom he alleges were motivated by revenge. He asserts that the charge sheet was prematurely filed without a thorough examination of the allegations’ veracity, leading to his wrongful implication.
Additionally, the case also involves Vinod Tomar, former assistant secretary of the WFI, who faces charges of criminal intimidation linked to the same set of allegations.
The filing of the FIR by Delhi Police was prompted by the Supreme Court’s intervention earlier in May 2023, indicating the high-profile nature of the case and the significant attention it has attracted.
