NEET-UG 2024 Leak Confined to Patna and Hazaribagh, No Systemic Violation Found: Supreme Court

The Supreme Court announced that the NEET-UG 2024 paper leak was limited to Patna and Hazaribagh, confirming that there was no systemic breach within the exam’s structure. This declaration came after thorough evaluations and discussions, alleviating widespread concerns about the integrity of the national medical entrance examination.

The court stated that a committee formed by the central government would consider improving cyber security measures and enhancing CCTV monitoring at exam centers to prevent future breaches. These steps are part of an initiative to strengthen the examination system and maintain fairness and security.

Previously, petitions demanding the cancellation and reconduction of the NEET-UG 2024 were dismissed by the Supreme Court on July 23. The bench, led by Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud and comprising Justice J.B. Pardiwala and Justice Manoj Mishra, found no evidence of a systemic issue that would warrant a nationwide re-examination.

The controversy erupted following allegations of a leaked NEET-UG paper, sparking calls from various quarters, including political opposition, for a fresh exam. However, after careful consideration, the Supreme Court concluded that the alleged leaks did not indicate a widespread problem.

In the initial charge sheet filed by the CBI, names of several individuals, including candidates, their parents, and engineers involved in orchestrating the leak, were listed. Further investigations are ongoing, with a supplementary charge sheet expected to be filed soon.
