Supreme Court’s Lok Adalat: A Resounding Success, Says CJI DY Chandrachud

Chief Justice of India, DY Chandrachud, announced today that the Lok Adalat held by the Supreme Court throughout this week has been a resounding success. The event saw seven benches of the Supreme Court in action, handling a wide array of small cases.

“The Lok Adalat is being held throughout this week by seven benches of the Supreme Court. Our experience today was that it was a resounding success,” CJI Chandrachud stated. He emphasized that the event received comprehensive support from various legal and governmental bodies. “Lok Adalat, which has the cooperation of the Bar, Supreme Court Judges, and extensive groundwork done by High Courts, State Governments, and Insurance Companies, has proven to be a significant step towards justice.”

The initiative focused on settling smaller disputes, which often clutter the court’s docket, thus delaying justice. “People do not realise how small cases come before the Supreme Court. So we chose cases involving service disputes, labour disputes, land acquisition cases, motor accident claim cases, cheque dishonour cases,” said CJI Chandrachud.

The presence of Bar members as part of the Lok Adalat panel, alongside Judges, was a strategic move to convey a message of unity in the judiciary’s efforts to deliver justice efficiently. “The presence of Bar members as part of the Lok Adalat panel along with the Judges has sent the right message across society that we are united in our efforts to do justice, especially to citizens involved in these small cases,” he noted.

The success of this week’s Lok Adalat could pave the way for similar initiatives, ensuring that smaller cases are resolved swiftly and effectively, thereby reducing the burden on the judiciary and delivering timely justice to the citizens.
