BCI to Hold Virtual Meeting with UP Advocates to Address Ongoing Strike

The Bar Council of India (BCI) has taken a proactive step to address the ongoing advocate strike in Uttar Pradesh by scheduling a joint virtual meeting for Sunday, July 14. This meeting aims to tackle the pressing issues that have led to the work stoppage and find constructive solutions to prevent future strikes.

The agenda for the meeting is comprehensive and focuses on several key areas:

1. Supreme Court Directives: Discussing the prohibition of lawyer strikes as emphasized in various court judgments.

2. Compliance Strategies: Developing methods to ensure adherence to these directives.

3. Dialogue-Based Grievance Resolution: Formulating plans to address concerns without resorting to strikes.

4. Feedback Collection: Gathering input from all relevant parties to effectively resolve the matter.

5. Continuous Engagement Framework: Establishing a system for ongoing consultation between the BCI, State Bar Councils, and Bar Associations.

The meeting will bring together representatives from the BCI, the Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh, the Prayagraj District Bar Association, and the High Court Bar Association, Allahabad.

The strike, which began on July 10, was initiated by the Allahabad High Court Bar Association due to unresolved issues with the High Court administration, particularly concerning the conduct of certain judges towards the Bar. The association expressed concerns about the deteriorating relationship between judges and lawyers, which they believe is negatively impacting the administration of justice.

In a recent resolution, the Bar Association called for lawyers to refrain from addressing judges as “My Lord” or “Your Lordship”.
