Delhi Court Rejects Kejriwal’s Interim Bail Plea, Extends Custody

In a significant legal development, the Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi dismissed an interim bail plea by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, extending his judicial custody until June 19. The plea, citing medical grounds for a seven-day bail, was not deemed sufficient by the court, which has instead ordered specific medical tests for Kejriwal.

Arvind Kejriwal, who is entangled in a money laundering case linked to the Delhi Excise Policy, was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on March 21. He had previously been granted interim bail by the Supreme Court until June 1 to participate in the Lok Sabha election campaigning and surrendered on June 2, following the conclusion of the polls.

The court’s decision came amidst arguments by Kejriwal’s lawyer, Advocate Vivek Jain, who noted variations in the Chief Minister’s weight as a concern. The court, however, required a more detailed application specifying the relief sought by Kejriwal before considering any medical bail.
