The Calcutta High Court on Thursday said that the School Service Commission (SSC) and the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) should take steps by Friday with regard to 2,819 candidates, whose OMR sheets were found to be manipulated, in accordance with applicable rules for Group D recruitment.
Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay directed the SSC to file an affidavit by Friday on the factual situation over the issue.
Hearing a petition filed by a candidate alleging illegal appointments in West Bengal government-sponsored and aided schools, Justice Gangopadhyay said that the SSC had published 4,465 OMR (Optical Mark Recognition) sheets of Group D candidates, including those of the 2,819 candidates.
He held that the SSC and the WBBSE should take steps in respect of the 2,819 candidates whose OMR sheets as found from a hard disc were found to be manipulated.
The CBI, which is investigating the alleged money for jobs scam on an order of this court, recovered the hard disc from Ghaziabad.
These were handed over to the SSC by the CBI, Justice Gangopadhyay noted.
The court said that the SSC’s lawyer has submitted that the marks found from the hard disc of NYSA, an enterprise which conducts assessments and examinations, do not tally with the marks found in the server of the SSC.
It was also submitted that the SSC has checked that the marks found from the NYSA hard disc are correct and the marks recorded in the commission’s server are wrong.
“Not only the Commission should (take) steps by tomorrow in accordance with the rules applicable for Group D recruitment, the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education will also take consequential steps forthwith thereafter,” Justice Gangopadhyay directed.
He directed the SSC to submit an affidavit before it disclosing the facts relating to its receipt of the hard disc from CBI, verifying the answer string there, the result of such verification and also the result of comparison of the marks recorded in the commission’s database.
