West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee to approach Supreme Court against Election Commission

West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee has told the press that she will approach the Supreme Court seeking directions to regulate Election Commission’s power due to the horrors and bias that her party faced from the Election Commission before the elections.

Banerjee stated that she would appeal to other political parties and jointly file a petition in the Apex Court. She added that if EC’s biased conduct is tolerated, then democracy would be in peril.

According to her, limitations should be placed on the poll body’s powers, and three nominated persons can’t be allowed to control the country.

TMC attacked the EC before and during elections, accusing it of favouring BJP for the elections.

The CM also pointed out the scheduling of elections in West Bengal in eight phases and how the Commission dealt with violations of the Model Code of Conduct by BJP top brass.
