The Uttarakhand High Court has ordered the Roorkee Ganganahar Police to provide protection to a woman who says she fears for her life and property due to threats from her own brother. The court has also directed both sides to appear before the Roorkee Conciliation Centre on November 15 for an attempt at mutual settlement.
A division bench of Chief Justice G Narendra and Justice Subhash Upadhyay issued the directions while hearing a petition filed by Yamin, a resident of Ganganahar, Roorkee.
According to the petition, Yamin has been living at her parental home since the death of her husband three years ago. She alleged that her brother has been attempting to forcibly take over her property, frequently quarrels with her, and recently assaulted her, leaving her with injuries at seven places.
She further claimed that although she approached the local police, no FIR was registered on her complaint, which compelled her to approach the High Court seeking protection and intervention.
Taking note of the allegations, the bench directed the Station House Officer of Ganganahar Police Station to ensure her safety. The court also instructed both parties to participate in the conciliation proceedings scheduled at the Roorkee Conciliation Centre on November 15.
