A Thane district court has handed down a ten-year rigorous imprisonment sentence to 30-year-old Saddam Hussain Abdul Razzak Sheikh for his involvement in an attempted murder case dating back to 2022.
The judgment was passed by Additional Sessions Judge P.R. Ashturkar in Kalyan town on Tuesday. Alongside the prison term, the court also imposed a fine of Rs 3,000 on Sheikh. The judge affirmed that the prosecution had successfully substantiated the charges against the accused, leading to his conviction.
According to Additional Public Prosecutor S.R. Kulkarni, the incident occurred on May 29, 2022, when Sheikh attacked a man with a sharp weapon as the victim exited a Mumbai mosque after prayers. The attack severely injured the victim, who was allegedly targeted because Sheikh believed the victim’s brother was a police informer.
The prosecutor detailed that when the victim attempted to flee the scene to save his life, Sheikh pursued him and threatened severe consequences. During the trial, the prosecution examined 11 witnesses, bolstering the case against Sheikh and leading to his conviction.
