The Telangana High Court delivered a significant verdict on Thursday by quashing a phone tapping case against BRS MLA T Harish Rao, providing considerable relief to the senior political leader. The case, which stemmed from accusations of illegal surveillance, was registered last year at the Panjagutta police station in Siddipet district, following allegations by a local realtor, G Chakradhar Goud.
Goud had claimed that his phone was unlawfully tapped, accusing Rao, who served as a minister in the previous BRS government and is a nephew of former Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, of abusing state intelligence resources to monitor his and his associates’ movements, including those of his family.
In response to these allegations, Harish Rao challenged the First Information Report (FIR) in the High Court, arguing that the charges were both “illegal” and “politically motivated.” After thorough deliberations and hearings on the matter, the court decided to quash the FIR, concluding the legal battle that had cast a shadow over Rao’s political career.
Following the court’s decision, Rao expressed his relief and vindication on social media platform ‘X’, stating, “Justice prevailed.” This outcome not only clears Rao of the charges but also underscores the judicial system’s role in addressing disputes involving alleged misuse of power and political influence.
