In a significant step toward modernizing India’s legal infrastructure, the eCommittee of the Supreme Court, in partnership with the Department of Justice, is hosting a two-day national conference on ‘Judicial Process Re-Engineering and Digital Transformation.’
The event, scheduled for April 11 and 12, will take place at the Additional Buildings Complex of the Supreme Court. It marks a pivotal moment for the eCourts Mission Mode Project, focusing on integrating cutting-edge technology to enhance the efficiency, transparency, and accessibility of the nation’s justice delivery system.
The conference will be inaugurated by Chief Justice of India Justice Surya Kant. Key addresses are also expected from Supreme Court judge and eCommittee Chairperson Justice Vikram Nath, alongside Union Ministers Arjun Ram Meghwal and Jitin Prasada.
The gathering serves as a high-level forum, bringing together judges from the Supreme Court and various High Courts, as well as senior officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs, the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), and the National Informatics Centre (NIC).
A central highlight of the conference will be the unveiling of several critical digital tools under Phase III of the eCourts project. These initiatives are designed to streamline interactions between the judiciary, litigants, and other state departments. Notable launches include:
- eCourts Services Mobile App (Version 4.0): An upgraded interface for legal professionals and the public.
- Single Sign-On (SSO) Portal: A unified service portal to simplify user access to various judicial digital services.
- Electronic Summons Delivery: A move toward paperless communication by enabling the delivery of summons via email.
- ePrison Integration: A system designed to link court processes directly with prison data for better coordination.
- Phase III Biennial Report: A comprehensive review of the project’s progress and future roadmap.
The conference is rooted in the National Policy and Action Plan, which seeks to leverage Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to eliminate systemic bottlenecks. Beyond the product launches, attendees will deliberate on “re-engineering” existing judicial processes—rethinking how cases move through the system to maximize productivity and ensure citizens can seek justice more easily.
