In a significant development, the 70th Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) Preliminary Examination has reached the Supreme Court after a petition was filed seeking its cancellation. The petition, lodged by Anand Legal & Forum Trust, raises serious allegations of widespread malpractices during the examination process.
The petitioners have demanded a thorough investigation by the CBI, under the supervision of a retired Supreme Court judge, asserting that only a high-level and impartial probe could ensure justice in the matter. The applicants have challenged the commission’s handling of the examination, continuously urging for the exam to be declared void.
Further, the plea also seeks action against the district SP and DM responsible for ordering a baton charge against the candidates during a protest. This action escalated tensions and intensified the demands for the examination’s cancellation.
Amidst ongoing unrest, only the exam held at the Bapu Examination Center on December 13 was cancelled following severe disruptions. Despite the unrest, the BPSC went ahead and rescheduled this cancelled exam for January 4, with about 6,000 candidates participating.
The Supreme Court Registry has assured that the plea will be listed for hearing before an appropriate bench on January 7, Tuesday. This move comes as the BPSC continues to face protests, with candidates demanding justice and the cancellation of the entire examination due to alleged discrepancies and unfair practices.
