Supreme Court Round-Up For February 28

Important cases heard in the Supreme Court on Tuesday, February 28:

* SC refused to entertain a plea of former Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia, seeking bail and quashing of the FIR in the excise policy case, saying it would set a “wrong precedent” and efficacious alternative remedies are available to him.

* Amid a tussle with the AAP government, Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit told SC that he has summoned the Assembly for the budget session on March 3 even as the top court told both sides that constitutional discourse has to be conducted with a sense of decorum and mature statesmanship.

* SC told Maharashtra Chief Minister led faction that his bloc has to abide by the Party discipline in the House and their act to go against the wishes of the party to continue with the coalition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) would have amounted to disqualification.

* A PIL was filed in SC seeking a direction to the Centre to frame rules for registration of live-in relationships as it cited increase in crimes like rape and murder allegedly committed by live-in partners.

* In a significant verdict, SC held that a high court can transfer a civil lawsuit from one state to another if it is common and has jurisdiction over both the states.
