The Supreme Court Collegium, headed by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, has recommended the elevation of two Judicial Officers as Judges of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
In a statement released following its meeting held on December 16, 2025, the Collegium approved the proposal for the appointment of the following judicial officers:
- Shri Ramesh Chander Dimri
- Ms. Neerja Kulwant Kalson
Strengthening the Bench
The recommendation comes as a significant step towards addressing the judicial vacancies in the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The High Court, which has a sanctioned strength of 85 judges, is currently functioning with 59 judges, leaving 26 positions vacant.
Both recommended officers are senior members of the Higher Judicial Service in Haryana. Prior to this recommendation, Shri Ramesh Chander Dimri has served as the District and Sessions Judge in districts such as Bhiwani and Jagadhri. Ms. Neerja Kulwant Kalson has served as the District and Sessions Judge in Rohtak and Mewat at Nuh.
The Collegium’s resolution formally clears the way for the Union Ministry of Law and Justice to process these appointments. Once cleared by the Centre and the warrant of appointment is signed by the President of India, they will take the oath of office.
This move is expected to assist the High Court in tackling the substantial backlog of cases and ensuring swifter delivery of justice in the states of Punjab, Haryana, and the Union Territory of Chandigarh.
