Supreme Court Collegium Recommends Elevation of Delhi High Court Chief Justice Manmohan as Judge of SC

The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the elevation of Delhi High Court Chief Justice Manmohan as a judge of the Supreme Court. Known for his judicial acumen and a career spanning decades, Justice Manmohan has played a pivotal role in delivering landmark judgments and steering legal reforms.

A Distinguished Journey

Justice Manmohan, born on December 17, 1962, in Delhi, is the son of the late Jagmohan, a distinguished bureaucrat and politician. After completing his education at Modern School, Barakhamba Road, and Hindu College, University of Delhi, he pursued law at the Campus Law Centre and was enrolled as an advocate in 1987. He built an illustrious legal career, practicing in the Supreme Court and Delhi High Court across diverse fields, including constitutional, civil, and taxation law.

After serving as Senior Panel Advocate for the Government of India, he was designated as Senior Advocate in 2003. He was appointed as a judge of the Delhi High Court in 2008 and later elevated as a permanent judge in 2009.

Chief Justice of Delhi High Court

Justice Manmohan was sworn in as Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court on September 29, 2024, after serving as Acting Chief Justice following the elevation of his predecessor, Justice Satish Chandra Sharma, to the Supreme Court. During his tenure, he has delivered key rulings, such as:

– Advocating LGBTQIA+ rights under the new Nyaya Sanhita.

– Ensuring compensation for victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.
