The Supreme Court of India has announced recruitment for 30 posts of Court Master (Shorthand) in its Registry. The gazetted posts fall under Pay Level 11 of the Pay Matrix with an initial basic pay of ₹67,700, along with admissible allowances. Vacancies include 16 for the unreserved category, 4 for SC, 2 for ST, and 8 for OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) candidates.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must be between 30 and 45 years of age as on July 1, 2025, hold a degree from a recognised Indian university, possess proficiency in English shorthand at 120 w.p.m., have computer operation skills with a typing speed of 40 w.p.m., and have at least five years’ regular service in posts such as Private Secretary, Senior PA, PA, or Senior Stenographer in Government, PSU, or statutory bodies.
Selection Process
The recruitment will involve:

- Shorthand (English) Test – 120 w.p.m. for 7 minutes with 45 minutes transcription; up to 5% mistakes allowed.
- Objective Type Written Test – 100 questions covering General English, General Knowledge, constitutional provisions on the judiciary, Supreme Court Rules, and computer knowledge.
- Typing Speed Test – Minimum 40 w.p.m. with limited mistakes allowed.
- Interview – Minimum qualifying marks prescribed.
Candidates with a recognised law degree (including BGL/LLB Academic) will receive a weightage of three marks. Tests will be held in Delhi/NCR, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Chennai, while the typing test and interview will take place only in Delhi.

Online registration will open on August 30, 2025, and close on September 15, 2025, at 11:55 PM. Applications must be submitted through the official website www.sci.gov.in only. The fee is ₹1,500 for General category candidates and ₹750 for SC/ST/OBC/Ex-servicemen/Persons with Disabilities/Dependent of Freedom Fighter candidates, payable online via the UCO Bank payment gateway.
Candidates must upload scanned copies of their photograph, signature, and relevant certificates in the prescribed formats and sizes. No hard copies are to be sent to the Registry. Multiple applications will result in only the latest eligible application being considered.
