Advocate Shamima Jahan was sworn in as an Additional Judge of the Gauhati High Court on Wednesday, marking a significant milestone in her judicial career.
The oath of office was administered by Chief Justice Vijay Bishnoi in a ceremonial function held at the Gauhati High Court premises. The event was attended by several sitting judges, senior advocates, court officials, and members of the legal fraternity.
Jahan’s elevation comes in the wake of the central government’s notification dated May 26, which announced the appointment of seven advocates as judges to various High Courts across the country.
Her name had earlier been recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium in 2024 for appointment as an Additional Judge of the Gauhati High Court.
With this appointment, the strength of the Gauhati High Court has been further bolstered to address the increasing judicial workload in the northeastern region.
