A sessions court judge in Maharashtra has approached the Bombay High Court to seek pre-arrest bail in connection with a bribery case filed against him. The case involves allegations of demanding a substantial bribe in exchange for favorable bail terms in a separate legal matter.
According to reports, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has accused the judge of seeking a bribe to influence the outcome of a legal proceeding. The allegations suggest that an illicit demand for money was made to assist someone involved in a legal case under the pretense of securing bail.
The High Court has scheduled a hearing in this matter, which will take place privately due to the involvement of a judicial officer. The judge contends that there is no substantial evidence in the formal complaint linking him directly to the acceptance or explicit demand for the bribe. He further argues that he was either on leave or otherwise committed during critical periods pertinent to the allegations.
Moreover, the judge has asserted his innocence, indicating that the connections made by the prosecution between him and the other parties allegedly involved are circumstantial and lack concrete proof of his direct involvement.
