The petitioner, by the name of Saloni Gautam filed a petition in the Supreme Court addressing the failure of the Government in appointing Presidents and Staff/Members of the State and District Consumer Dispute Redressal Commissions across India.
The court stated the importance of the petition while saying that the petition was “sketchy” and it showed no ground work being done.
A Bench of Hon’ble Justices Mr. Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Mr. Hrishikesh Roy, observed the petition was too important to be dismissed and therefore it is being converted into a Suo Moto petition.
The court observed “Consumer Rights are important rights and non-manning of posts and inadequate infrastructure would deprive citizens of redressal of their grievances.”
Hon’ble Supreme Court appointed Mr. Aaditya Narain, learned counsel led by Mr. Gopal Shankaranarayan, learned senior
counsel as Amicus to assist the court in this matter..
The Court has directed to place following data before the court:
- occupied posts
- vacant Posts
- nature of infrastructure available
