SC Collegium Recommends Justice Kempaiah Somashekar as Manipur HC Chief Justice

The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the elevation of Justice Kempaiah Somashekar, currently serving as a Judge of the Karnataka High Court, to the post of Chief Justice of the Manipur High Court.

This recommendation was made during the Collegium’s meeting held on May 15, 2025. The appointment is proposed in view of the impending retirement of the incumbent Chief Justice of the Manipur High Court, Justice D. Krishnakumar, who is set to retire on May 21, 2025.

Justice Somashekar’s elevation comes as part of the Collegium’s ongoing efforts to fill chief justiceship vacancies across various High Courts in a timely manner, ensuring continuity in judicial leadership.
