In a significant development, the Supreme Court Collegium has approved the appointment of judges in four High Courts during its meeting on December 22, 2024. The recommendations aim to fill key judicial positions in the Allahabad, Bombay, Rajasthan, and Uttarakhand High Courts, ensuring better functioning and faster adjudication.
Appointments to Rajasthan High Court
The Collegium has recommended the appointment of three Judicial Officers as Judges of the Rajasthan High Court:
1. Shri Chandra Shekhar Sharma
2. Shri Pramil Kumar Mathur
3. Shri Chandra Prakash Shrimali
These appointments are expected to strengthen the judicial capacity of one of the largest High Courts in the country.
Appointment to Bombay High Court
The Collegium approved the proposal to appoint Shri Pravin Sheshrao Patil, an Advocate, as a Judge of the Bombay High Court. His legal expertise and extensive experience as an advocate are seen as valuable additions to the Bench.
Appointment to Allahabad High Court
For the High Court of Judicature at Allahabad, the Collegium recommended the appointment of Shri Praveen Kumar Giri, an Advocate. The Allahabad High Court, being the largest High Court in India, frequently sees a high volume of cases, making this appointment critical to addressing its workload.
Appointment to Uttarakhand High Court
The Collegium has also approved the appointment of Shri Ashish Naithani, a Judicial Officer, as a Judge of the Uttarakhand High Court. This move is expected to bolster judicial resources in the relatively young High Court.
These appointments reflect the Supreme Court Collegium’s commitment to addressing the vacancies in the higher judiciary and ensuring timely justice delivery. The recommendations will now await final approval from the President of India, as per constitutional provisions.
