The Supreme Court of India has officially notified the schedule and guidelines for the upcoming Advocates-on-Record (AOR) Examination, set to be conducted on June 16, 17, 20, and 21, 2025, in New Delhi. As per the notification issued by the Office of the Registrar and Secretary, Board of Examiners, the application window will be open from April 15 to April 30, 2025.
Eligible advocates — those who have completed one year of mandatory training under an Advocate-on-Record by April 30, 2025 — can submit their application forms in person at Room No. 307, B-Block, Administrative Building Complex, or via email (subject to subsequent submission of hard copies). The examination will be held in pen-and-paper mode only.
A key highlight of this year’s notification is a one-time relaxation: the AOR Examination held in December 2021 will not be counted among the five permissible attempts. Thus, candidates who exhausted their chances excluding December 2021 may apply for one final attempt.

Important Instructions:
The last date to submit the hard copy of the application form is April 30, 2025, by 5:00 PM.
The exam fee is ₹750, payable to UCO Bank, Supreme Court Compound.
Candidates must affix a photograph and provide a self-attested copy of their Enrolment Certificate.
Syllabus Updates:
The Supreme Court also issued clarifications for the syllabus:
Paper-II (Drafting) includes a wide range of petitions under the Constitution and relevant statutes (e.g., SLPs, transfer petitions, review petitions, contempt, bail).
Paper-III (Advocacy and Professional Ethics) emphasizes ethical conduct, duties under the Advocates Act, professional standards, and comparative legal ethics.
Paper-IV (Leading Cases) will include a revised list of 86 landmark judgments, with headnotes provided in the examination hall (to be returned post-exam).
Caution to Candidates:
Absence in any paper after roll number issuance will be treated as insufficient preparation, disqualifying the candidate from future attempts unless explicitly allowed by the Board of Examiners.
Candidates who fail all papers or exceed five attempts (except for the December 2021 exemption) are not eligible to reappear.
The result of the 2024 AOR Examination was declared on January 23, 2025. Candidates falling under Regulation 11(i) or 11(ii) may either opt to reappear in a single paper or attempt the entire examination afresh — this option must be declared at the time of application.
For detailed application procedures, payment instructions, and list of leading cases, candidates are advised to refer to the official notification issued by the Supreme Court of India.
