Rahul Gandhi’s Plea for Exemption from Personal Appearance in “Modi Surname” Case Rejected

The court of Special Judicial Magistrate Anamika Kisku of Ranchi MP-MLA Court on Wednesday refused to grant exemption from personal appearance of former Congress National President Rahul Gandhi in the case related to Modi surname case.

The court rejected the application for exemption from personal appearance filed by Rahul Gandhi during the hearing. Rahul Gandhi’s advocate Pradeep Chandra told that the application for exemption from personal appearance has been rejected. The date of May 22 has been fixed for appearance.

Notably, a person named Pradeep Modi, a resident of Ranchi had filed a defamation case against Rahul Gandhi for commenting on the Modi surname. Its hearing is going on in Ranchi MP-MLA court. Additional Public Prosecutor Pushpa Sinha argued on behalf of the State Government in this case. Advocate Pradeep Chandra argued on behalf of Rahul Gandhi. There is an allegation against Rahul Gandhi that in 2019, he had said in Ranchi and other rallies that everyone with the surname Modi is a thief.
