Chandigarh, May 8, 2025 — In response to escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, the Punjab and Haryana High Court Bar Association has announced that May 9 will be observed as a ‘No Work Day’. This decision aims to ensure the safety and security of all Bar members during this period of heightened alert.
The announcement follows a series of military exchanges between the two nations. India recently launched ‘Operation Sindoor’, targeting alleged terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir. In retaliation, Pakistan attempted drone and missile attacks on multiple locations in northern India, including Punjab, prompting Indian authorities to enforce blackouts in several regions, such as Gurdaspur and Chandigarh.
The Bar Association’s decision underscores the gravity of the situation and reflects the broader regional measures being implemented to safeguard civilians. While the High Court administration has not issued a formal notification, urgent matters may still be addressed at the discretion of the Bench.

As the situation continues to evolve, authorities urge citizens to remain vigilant and adhere to safety protocols. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
