President Murmu Unveils New Flag and Insignia of Supreme Court to Mark 75th Anniversary

In a historic event marking the 75th anniversary of the Supreme Court’s establishment, President Droupadi Murmu unveiled the court’s new flag and insignia during the valedictory session of the two-day National Conference of District Judiciary.

The new insignia, introduced at a significant time in the Supreme Court’s history, symbolizes the court’s enduring legacy as the judicial sentinel of the world’s largest democracy. President Murmu highlighted the Supreme Court’s critical role in shaping Indian jurisprudence, which she noted holds a prestigious position globally due to the court’s contributions.

The ceremony also served as a platform for President Murmu to acknowledge the Supreme Court’s efforts in organizing numerous programs that have bolstered public trust and engagement with the judiciary. She lauded these initiatives for enhancing the judicial system’s image and fostering a deeper connection with the citizenry.

In her address, President Murmu extended her appreciation to the judiciary, noting that the public often regards judges as figures of divine justice, tasked with upholding dharma, truth, and fairness. She emphasized the significant moral responsibility that every judge and judicial officer bears in this regard.

“The district-level courts determine the image of the judiciary in the minds of crores of citizens,” President Murmu said, underscoring the importance of these courts in delivering justice swiftly, sensitively, and affordably. She acknowledged the recent advancements in judicial infrastructure, training, and resources at the district level, while also pointing out that considerable challenges remain, particularly in reducing the pendency and backlog of cases, some of which stretch over three decades.

President Murmu advocated for more frequent organization of special Lok Adalat weeks and other such programs to address case backlogs effectively. She also called for innovative approaches to make justice more accessible, suggesting that judicial proceedings in local languages and contexts would bring justice closer to the people.
