In a peculiar incident from Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, a man’s plea for the return of his camels has reached the Court. The petitioner, seeking justice for his 22 missing camels, has implored the court to intervene and ensure their return from police custody. The court, acknowledging the plea, has sought a response from the inspector of Lisari Gate police station, with a hearing scheduled for the upcoming March.
The case dates back to August 2019 when the local police, enforcing a ban on camel sacrifice during Eid, seized 22 camels belonging to Mohammad Anas, a resident of Meerut. Despite a city magistrate’s order for the camels’ return, Anas claims they have not been returned. In pursuit of justice, Anas approached the High Court in 2022, filing a petition for the retrieval of his camels.
According to media reports, the High Court passed an order on January 12, 2023, for the return of the camels, but it was not executed. A re-petition has been filed in light of the non-compliance. The victim contends that since the police seized the camels, it is their responsibility to return them. The next hearing in the court is eagerly awaited on March 18.
