Assam Police arrested senior Congress leader Pawan Khera from the Delhi airport a short time ago after a FIR was filed against him for his remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Congress has filed a petition with the Supreme Court, calling the incident “undemocratic” and dictatorial.
The Supreme Court allowed the mention and heard the case at 3 PM, granting interim bail to congress leader and further issued notices on clubbing of FIRs in one jurisdiction.
Khera was apprehended after disembarking from an IndiGo flight to Raipur at the Delhi airport. He was on his way to Chhattisgarh’s capital to attend the AICC plenary session, which was set to begin tomorrow. Following his arrest, Congress leaders protested by raising anti-government slogans on the tarmac.
The FIR was filed against Dima Hasao in connection with a remark he made about the Prime Minister while speaking at a press conference to demand an investigation by a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) into allegations made by the US-based Hindenburg Research firm against the Adani Group. The FIR was filed under the following sections: 120 B, 153 A, 153 B (1), 500, 504, 505 (1), and 505 (2). (2).
