NGT Forms Panel to Address Garbage Issue on Roads in Neb Sarai

In response to growing concerns over public health and safety due to garbage being indiscriminately dumped in the Neb Sarai locality, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) has established a panel to address the issue. The decision came after the NGT received a letter-petition highlighting the severe condition of the garbage collection point in the area, which has led to solid waste accumulating on the main IGNOU Road and the locality’s main entrance road.

Justice Prakash Shrivastava and expert member Afroz Ahmad of the NGT chaired the bench that passed the order last week. The order pointed out that the current solid waste management rules strictly prohibit the disposal of garbage in open spaces. To tackle the issue, the tribunal has formed a joint committee comprising representatives from the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).

The NGT has directed that an action taken report should be submitted to the registrar general promptly following the completion of the committee’s interventions.
