In an unconventional turn of events, a Coimbatore resident brought the staggering sum of ₹80,000 in coins to pay his interim alimony, stirring considerable attention and prompting discussions on the peculiarities of legal payments. The incident took place at the additional family court in Coimbatore, where a 37-year-old man was seen unloading twenty bundles of ₹2 and ₹1 coins from his vehicle.
The man, a resident of Vadavalli, was ordered to pay a total of ₹2 lakh in interim maintenance to his wife, who filed for divorce last year. The scene caught the public eye when he attempted to settle part of the payment with coins, only for the presiding judge to insist that the amount be paid in notes.
Social media buzzed with activity as a video captured the man reluctantly exiting the courtroom with his coin bundles, only to return the following day with the alimony in currency notes. The court has since instructed him to clear the remaining balance of ₹1.2 lakh shortly.
