In a significant judicial appointment, Justice Arun Palli, currently serving as a judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, has been appointed as the Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. The appointment has been made by the President of India under powers conferred by the Constitution, following consultation with the Chief Justice of India.
Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal announced the appointment on social media, stating, “In exercise of the power conferred by the Constitution of India, the Hon’ble President of India, after consultation with Hon’ble Chief Justice of India, is pleased to appoint Shri Justice Arun Palli, Judge, High Court of Punjab and Haryana as Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office. I convey my best wishes to him.”
Justice Arun Palli brings with him a wealth of judicial experience and is known for his balanced and thoughtful judgments. His elevation comes at a time when the judiciary in the region is addressing key constitutional and legal challenges.

He will take charge as Chief Justice upon assuming office, succeeding the current acting arrangements in the High Court.
