In a recent ruling, the Jharkhand High Court dismissed a petition requesting a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the alleged paper leak of the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) Combined Graduate Level (CGL) exam. The court cited the lack of direct involvement of the petitioner, an advocate, in the examination process as a reason for the dismissal, suggesting that the petition may have been filed with ulterior motives.
The controversy surrounds the JSSC CGL exam held on January 28, 2024, which saw widespread participation. Allegations of a paper leak led to the annulment of the examination, followed by the state government’s decision to form a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the matter. Despite these measures, calls for a more extensive CBI investigation emerged, culminating in the now-dismissed petition.
During the proceedings, the court noted that another related petition by Prakash Kumar is still pending and suggested that the current petitioner could seek to intervene in that ongoing case if desired.
Additionally, in a separate hearing on the same day, the division bench comprising Chief Justice M.M. Ramchandra Rao and Justice Deepak Roshan addressed a petition concerning noise pollution. The court took serious note of threats made against individuals complaining about noise pollution, directing the presentation of related records and scheduling the next hearing for December 29. The court had previously instructed the police and government to keep the identities of complainants confidential to protect them from retaliation.
