Jharkhand High Court Delivers Major Setback to Hemant Soren, Dismisses Petition Against Arrest

In a significant judicial ruling, the Jharkhand High Court dismissed a petition filed against the arrest of former Chief Minister Hemant Soren. The verdict, delivered on Friday, represents a major setback for Soren, who had been challenging his incarceration related to allegations of money laundering in a land scam case. The decision came after 66 days of deliberations.

On the preceding Thursday, a special court in Ranchi, under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), extended Soren’s judicial custody by 14 days. He is now required to remain in Birsa Munda Central Jail in Hotwar, Ranchi until May 16. Soren had appeared via video conferencing on Thursday, following which the court decided to extend his detention period.

Additionally, two other individuals involved in the land scam case, Bhanu Pratap, a revenue inspector, and Mohammad Saddam, accused of fabricating documents, also had their detention extended by 14 days during an online court session.
