The Allahabad High Court, while hearing a Public Interest Litigation has observed that holding Mela during the time of COVID 19 Pandemic is not in the public interest.

A Public Interest Litigation was filed before the Allahabad High Court by one Dalshingar Yadav.

The Petitioner prayed for a direction to the District Administration for providing amenities and Police Protection for Organizing a Mela.

A Division Bench of Hon’ble Chief Justice Govind Mathur and Hon’ble Justice Siddharth Varma observed that PIL filed by the Petitioner is not at all in the Public Interest.

The Court further observed that the petitioner is organizing a Mela when the Covid-19 Virus is upsurging and while holding such Mela,  petitioner wants such amenities including police

protection. The holding of Mela in the existing circumstances, in our considered opinion, is not in consonance with the public interest and as such, no interference is warranted.
