In a significant directive, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has ordered the Central Government and the Punjab Government to ensure a video call between a young woman currently in Bahrain and her family back in India. This order came amidst allegations of ‘Love Jihad’ following a petition filed by the woman’s parents.
The parents reported that their daughter had willingly moved to Bahrain with a 19-year-old man on March 9, 2024. However, concerns arose after a distressing video surfaced online where she claimed to have been sold. Although this video was later deleted, the woman mentioned in another video that her family had been persistently calling her to return to India.
The Jalandhar police informed the court that the woman’s partner had traveled to Bahrain on March 10, 2024. Emphasizing the woman’s well-being as a priority, the High Court highlighted the importance of communication between her and her parents to clarify the circumstances under which the allegations surfaced.
The High Court has tasked the Punjab Police, with the assistance of the Central Government, to facilitate this crucial conversation, thereby addressing the parents’ concerns and ensuring the safety and security of the woman involved.
