Former CJI D Y Chandrachud Dismisses Doubts on EVM Integrity

Former Chief Justice of India, D Y Chandrachud, has dismissed allegations from opposition parties questioning the authenticity of electronic voting machines (EVMs). Speaking to reporters after casting his vote in the Delhi assembly elections, Chandrachud emphasized that the Supreme Court has consistently upheld the validity of EVMs.

Addressing the media outside a polling station, Chandrachud responded to inquiries about the ongoing controversy surrounding EVMs. “Well, this is not a day to discuss this. The Supreme Court has repeatedly upheld the validity of the EVMs,” he stated, underscoring the apex court’s role as the final arbiter in constitutional matters. “The Supreme Court is the last voice in the constitutional space on adjudication and it has affirmed the validity of the EVMs. And I think we must accept it.”

This statement comes in the wake of persistent skepticism voiced by several opposition party leaders over the reliability and security of EVMs used in various elections across India. These concerns have sparked debates and legal challenges, all of which have been met with judicial scrutiny at the highest level.
