DPCC Fines MCD and DDA Rs 2 Lakh for Environmental Violations, Reports to NGT

The Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) has imposed fines on the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), penalizing each authority Rs 1 lakh for their failure to prevent environmental damage. This action was reported to the National Green Tribunal (NGT) on Monday.

The fines were levied following a directive from the NGT, which held both bodies liable for violating environmental norms. This decision came amid proceedings concerning a complaint about air and noise pollution in Vasant Kunj, a residential area in South Delhi. The pollution has been attributed to heavy vehicular movement along the approach road to the colony, particularly from dumper trucks traveling to and from goods warehouses and cargo stores in the nearby Rangpuri village. These vehicles are also accused of illegally dumping construction and demolition debris.

According to a DPCC report dated December 9, the order to impose the environmental damage compensation was issued on October 28. The report noted that the Deputy Commissioner of MCD (Najafgarh Zone) and the superintending engineer of DDA were the specific officials fined.
