Delhi High Court Round-Up for Friday

Important cases heard in the Delhi High Court on Friday, August 11:

* HC said use of trademarks as keywords by Google in its Ads Programme does amount to “use” under the intellectual property law and, in case of infringement, it cannot claim benefit of “safe harbour” from liability under the law.

*HC was told 15 cyber police stations have been established in each district of the national capital to combat emerging cyber crime trends.

*HC dismissed an application by real estate tycoon Gopal Ansal, convicted in an evidence tampering case related to the 1997 Uphaar cinema fire trial, seeking an urgent hearing of his plea for renewal of passport for 10 years.

* HC sought the stand of news portal NewsClick and its editor-in-chief on a plea by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) seeking vacation of an earlier order granting them protection from coercive action in a money laundering case.

*HC granted bail to Raghav Magunta, son of YSR Congress Party MP, in connection with a money laundering case related to the alleged excise scam.

*HC directed authorities including NDMC, MCD, PWD and DDA to file a detailed action taken report in respect to the status of plantation of trees by utilising an amount deposited by defaulting litigants as costs in several matters. PTI ADS
