Delhi High Court Dismisses Plea to Overturn CAT 2024 Results

The Delhi High Court on Tuesday rejected a plea to invalidate the results of the Common Admission Test (CAT) 2024, an entrance exam for India’s premier Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) and other leading business schools. Justice Tara Vitasta Ganju delivered the ruling, upholding the results announced on December 19, 2024.

The petition, filed by Aditya Kumar Mallick, challenged the accuracy of an answer in the English comprehension section of the exam, which was conducted on November 24, 2024. Mallick had raised concerns about the provisional answer key released on December 3, claiming that his objection, which was supported by distinguished experts and CAT coaching faculty, was ignored in the final answer key.

“There is no reason to set aside the result of CAT 2024. The petition is dismissed,” Justice Ganju stated, addressing the claims presented by Mallick.

The petitioner expressed dissatisfaction with the rapid processing and announcement of the results by IIM Calcutta, which he argued was done “hurriedly” and without adequate explanation or opportunity for him to seek legal redress. According to Mallick, the results were prematurely declared in December instead of the expected second week of January 2025, a haste that he claimed “spoke volumes” about the process.
