The Delhi High Court has issued an order directing local wildlife and police authorities to develop a structured mechanism for rescuing birds in distress within the city. The directive came as a response to a public interest litigation filed by Save Indian Foundation, which highlighted the urgent need for effective response measures for avian welfare.
Chief Justice DK Upadhyaya and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela presided over the case. The bench mandated that the Save Indian Foundation should submit a detailed representation to both the Delhi Police and the Department of Forests and Wildlife under the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD). This representation should outline the concerns and suggestions for the proposed rescue operations. The authorities are required to review and consider these suggestions within three months.
The court’s order, dated February 17, specifies that the development of the rescue mechanism should involve careful deliberation and must incorporate the input provided by Save Indian Foundation. This collaborative approach aims to ensure that the devised system is both practical and efficient in addressing the needs of distressed birds in the capital.

Additionally, the high court noted that the involved officials might also consult with other expert bodies, such as the Animal Welfare Board of Delhi, to further enrich the rescue mechanism with specialized insights and practices.
