The Delhi High Court is set to deliver its judgment on the bail applications of the owners of a basement in Old Rajinder Nagar, where three civil services aspirants tragically lost their lives due to drowning. The verdict is scheduled for 4 PM on Friday by Justice Dinesh Kumar Sharma, following the conclusion of arguments on Thursday.
In July, during a heavy downpour, the basement of the building that hosts Rau’s IAS Study Circle rapidly filled with water, leading to the deaths of Shreya Yadav, Tanya Soni, and Nevin Delvin—aged 25, 25, and 24, respectively. The aspirants hailed from Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, and Kerala.
The basement’s co-owners, Parvinder Singh, Tajinder Singh, Harvinder Singh, and Sarbjit Singh, have been detained in connection with the incident. They argue for bail on the basis that they were merely landlords and had leased the space to the coaching center, distancing themselves from direct responsibility for the mishap.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which took over the case from Delhi Police following a directive from the high court, has contested the bail plea. The CBI asserts that the investigation is still in its early phases, and the accused should remain in custody until the examination of independent witnesses is completed.
