Former Wrestling Federation of India president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and former assistant secretary Vinod Tomar were acquitted on Monday by a Delhi court in a sexual harassment case brought by female wrestlers.
Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Ashwini Panwar delivered the acquittal order clearing the six-time former Member of Parliament and his co-accused of all charges. The magistrate had reserved the judgment on July 2 following the conclusion of final arguments in the matter.
Legal Background and Chargesheet
The criminal proceedings stemmed from complaints filed by six women wrestlers, which prompted the Delhi Police to submit a formal chargesheet on June 15. The police had charged Singh under Indian Penal Code sections covering sexual harassment, stalking, assault or criminal force intended to outrage a woman’s modesty, and criminal intimidation.
In May 2024, the trial court had directed the framing of a criminal intimidation charge against Singh. During the same proceeding, the court discharged the former sports administrator in relation to allegations made by one of the six original complainants.
