A vacation bench of Justices AM Khanwilkar and Dinesh Maheshwari ruled that because each board is autonomous, the court cannot order the adoption of a uniform scheme of assessment.
Following the cancellation of exams, the Supreme Court observed on Thursday that it is impossible for states throughout the country to have a common scheme for assessing class 12 pupils.
This is to be noted that except for Andhra Pradesh, all state education boards agree to cancel the board test due to the pandemic and inform the Supreme Court that they will develop a separate mechanism for student evaluation.
The Court emphasised that in these cases, the Supreme Court is focusing solely on Class XII Exams and Results, not Class XI. As a result, the court declined to intervene in the plea seeking cancellation of Class XI exams in Kerala.
Furthermore, the court has directed state boards to establish an internal assessment scheme within 10 days and to announce all results by July 31.
