In response to allegations of harassment by the Chhattisgarh police, a petitioner sought anticipatory bail from the Bilaspur High Court, accusing Kotra police station in Korba district of misconduct. Represented by his wife, the petitioner Shashi Bhushan charged the police with harassment, fabricating a false case, and demanding a bribe of Rs. 1 lakh.
Hearing the case, the High Court not only granted bail but also instructed the Director General of Police (DGP) to ensure the installation of CCTV cameras across all police stations in the state.
The petitioner had alleged severe mistreatment by the police, including being detained, physically assaulted, and stripped in the lockup, all for refusing to pay the demanded bribe.
Furthermore, the police had registered a case against him, accusing him of defrauding people by taking bribes of Rs. 50,000 each under the pretense of securing jobs at NTPC during the final exams at an engineering college.
During the court proceedings, the allegations made by the police were contested, leading to the petitioner being granted bail.
Alongside this, the High Court mandated the installation of CCTV systems in all police stations, with district SPs tasked with their regular monitoring and operation.
