Centre Notifies Appointment of Three Judges to Chhattisgarh High Court, Two Additional Judges to Gauhati High Court

The Centre on Tuesday notified the appointment of three judicial officers as judges of the Chhattisgarh High Court and two persons as Additional Judges of the Gauhati High Court.

Union Minister of State for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal announced the appointments on September 8, 2026, stating that they were made by the President in exercise of powers conferred by the Constitution of India and after consultation with the Chief Justice of India.

The appointments are:

Chhattisgarh High Court

  1. Santosh Sharma, Judicial Officer – appointed as Judge
  2. Sushma Sawant, Judicial Officer – appointed as Judge
  3. Sudhir Kumar, Judicial Officer – appointed as Judge

Gauhati High Court

  1. Nchumbemo Mozhui, Advocate – appointed as Additional Judge
  2. Helen Dawngliani, Judicial Officer – appointed as Additional Judge

While all three appointees to the Chhattisgarh High Court come from the judicial service, the two appointments to the Gauhati High Court include one advocate and one judicial officer.
