In a significant development, the Central Government has appointed six distinguished senior advocates as Additional Solicitor Generals (ASGs) for the Supreme Court of India. This decision, effective immediately, was confirmed by a notification from the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions dated September 9.
The newly appointed ASGs are Senior Advocates S Dwarakanath, Archana Pathak Dave, Satya Darshi Sanjay, Brijender Chahar, Raghavendra P. Shankar, and Rajkumar Bhaskar Thakare. Their tenure in office will span three years from the date they assume their respective charges or until further directives are issued.
This cohort of ASGs will join the existing team of five in the Supreme Court, which includes Senior Advocates S V Raju, Aishwarya Bhati, Vikramjeet Banerjee, N Venkataraman, and K M Nataraj. The appointment of these legal luminaries aims to bolster the central government’s representation in high-stakes litigation and provide expert legal counsel on complex cases presented before the court.
