Cancel Class 12th State Boards Exam: Plea in Supreme Court

A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking cancellation of physical exams for class 12th of State Boards, NIOS and HSC and forming a committee to decide the assessment procedure.

The petitioner in the case is Child Rights Activist Anubha Srivastava and seven others. They filed the plea on behalf of forty-seven students belonging to 23 States, three countries and 2 UTs.

This plea seeks directions to UGC and State Boards to cancel the class 12th exam and a uniform formula for assessing the students to bring relief to students who have suffered due to the pandemic. The plea also seeks directions to UGC to form a Committee to work on a formula for the Assessment of class 12th students who want to join non-professional courses.

It was submitted that an aptitude test or other assessment techniques should be used for such students.

The plea was filed by Advocate Shashibhushan Adgaonkar and referred to Top Court’s order in Amit Bathla & Anr vs CBSE wherein the Court directed ICE & CBSE to compute and declare the results of class 12th students based on their earlier grades as their final examinations were postponed. The exams were not conducted due to the pandemic.
