The Calcutta High Court on Friday directed the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to submit a comprehensive report detailing its ongoing investigation into Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader and former West Bengal minister Sujit Bose. The order came during a hearing on a petition filed by Bose challenging his recent arrest by the central agency in connection with an alleged municipality recruitment scam in the state.
High Court Withholds Immediate Relief, Defers to Regular Bench
Sujit Bose, who served as a minister in the Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government, was apprehended by the ED on May 11 under a money laundering probe linked to the recruitment case. Following his arrest, the TMC leader approached the high court to legally contest the federal agency’s action.
Reviewing the petition during the court’s recess, a vacation bench of Justice Shampa Dutt (Paul) declined to grant any immediate relief or interim protection to Bose at this juncture. Instead, the bench instructed the ED to formally present its investigative findings before a regular bench once the ongoing summer vacation concludes.
The court has deferred the scheduling of the matter, leaving the exact date for the next hearing to be determined upon the reopening of the regular benches.
