The Calcutta High Court on Wednesday granted interim protection to veteran actor and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Mithun Chakraborty in connection with a case related to unpaid dues amounting to ₹35 lakh.
Justice Jay Sengupta, hearing the plea, directed that no coercive action be taken against Chakraborty until the next date of hearing on September 10. The court, however, allowed the investigation in the case to proceed.
The case stems from a complaint filed at Chitpur Police Station in North Kolkata, wherein the complainant alleged that he undertook interior decoration work for a hotelier based on assurances made by Chakraborty. According to the complainant’s lawyer, despite completing the work, the hotelier failed to clear the billed amount of ₹35 lakh.

Chakraborty, who has denied the allegations, approached the high court seeking quashing of the FIR, terming the charges “false and motivated.” He also sought interim protection from any potential coercive measures while the matter is under investigation.
The case is scheduled for further hearing on September 3.
